Of the many custom monitors available, portable LCD monitors are unique in that they can be easily carried from one location to another, can run on battery power, and can be easily concealed. These monitors are often used in CCTV or A/V installations to adjust and test mounted cameras.
Ordinarily, this is a two-person job with one person adjusting the focus or placement of a camera and the second person communicating the results of the adjustment to the installer. With portable monitors, one person can adjust the camera and simultaneously view the results on the portable LCD monitor strapped to their wrist or forearm.Image via Wikipedia
Because of their portability and small size, they can also be used for covert security/surveillance monitoring when space is at a premium.
Portable LCD monitors can also be used for mobile pipe inspection systems or other applications where size and portability are the primary consideration.
Characteristics
These monitors have the following characteristics:
• Housing: Because these monitors need to be durable in case they are dropped, the housing is often made of sturdy ABS.
• Manual controls: Since the ambient light source from these models varies widely (indoor factory lighting, outdoor light), the manual controls for tint, color, and brightness tend to be easily accessible either on the front or side of the monitor.
• Light weight: Many of these monitors are relatively light, weighing in at 1 lb or less.
• Battery pack: Although some models allow for a plug-in power supply, the majority of these, particularly those used in CCTV installation, draw their power from a battery pack.
• Power consumption: In order to extend battery life, these monitors have low power consumption, with many drawing 5 W or less.
